Highlanders Hoops Release 2021-22 Schedule

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – UC Riverside women’s basketball head coach Nicole Powell announced the 2021-22 slate on Wednesday, October 6. This season marks the program’s 20th competing in the Big West Conference.

The 30-game season begins November 5 at the Student Recreation Center with an exhibition against Whittier College. The squad opens the regular season on November 9, hosting California Baptist in the Crosstown Showdown at the SRC.

In addition to hosting the Lancers, UC Riverside’s Southern California non-conference opponents include Cal Lutheran (November 16), Loyola Marymount (December 12) and Antelope Valley (December 16).

UCR’s non-conference slate features three Power 5 opponents, including a date in Riverside with national runner-up Arizona on December 3. The Highlanders also travel to Illinois on November 21 and TCU on December 21. The date with the Horned Frogs in Fort Worth will round out the non-conference schedule.

The 2021-22 Big West schedule kicks off at home on December 28 as UC Davis travels to Riverside to open the conference schedule at the SRC. Two days later, UCR will host Hawaii from across the Pacific Ocean on December 30.

The Highlanders are facing off against both schools for the first time since the 2019-20 season after COVID-19 precautions forced cancellations against both the Aggies and Rainbow Wahine last season.

UC Riverside turns the calendar to January with a trip to UC San Diego on January 6 to open the road portion of the Big West schedule, and will stay on the road against UC Irvine on January 8. UCR will return to the SRC on January 13 to host Cal Poly in the first of four consecutive home games.

UC Riverside is meeting the Anteaters for the first time in two years due to disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two separate four-game stretches away from the Inland Empire will take place near the end of the regular season before UCR finishes off the slate with home games against Cal State Fullerton (March 3) and Long Beach State (March 5).

After the conference season concludes, UCR heads to the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nevada for the Big West Tournament.
