The 4th Annual Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl

EAST EVENS SERIES AGAINST WEST IN FOURTH-ANNUAL SEMPER FIDELIS ALL-AMERICAN BOWL

Up-Tempo Offenses Provide Lots of Electricity at StubHub Center

CARSON, Calif. (January 4, 2014) – The fourth-annual Semper Fidelis All-American Game here at StubHub Center had lots of exciting plays, but the East was able to turn more of those plays into points for a 24-3 victory. A record crowd of 6,310 fans came out to watch the East even with the West at two wins a piece.

After a Daniel LaCamera (East Lake High School, Tarpon Springs, Fla., TEXAS A&M) 25-yard field goal, the East made it 10-0 on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Shurmur (LaSalle College High School, Wyndmoor, Pa., VANDERBILT) to a wide open Tristan Payton (First Coast High School, Jacksonville, Fla., USC).

The East had a chance to extend the lead to 17-0 on a deep pass to Tra’veon Samuel (Central High School, Phenix City, Ala., LOUISVILLE), but a fumble on the 1-yard line resulted in a West touchback. The ensuing drive saw West’s no-huddle offense go 77 yards in 4:28, only to settle for a Joshua Williams (Rowlett High School , Rowlett, Texas, UNDECIDED) 20-yard field goal.

 Semper-Fidelis-profile

The East would finally seal the game with just over five minutes left on a 2-yard touchdown run by Eric Swinney (Sandy Creek High School, Tyrone, Ga., OLE MISS). For good measure, Dwayne Lawson (Hillsborough High School, Tampa, Fla., UNDECIDED) delivered a 58-yard bomb to an free-running Payton with under three minutes remaining. Payton’s two touchdown receptions and 101 yards receiving earned him MVP honors.

There were a pair of in-game commitments made with Austin Joyner (Marysville-Pilchuk High School, Marysville, Wash.) opting to stay close to home at the University of Washington and Lawson heading to Virginia Tech University.
