Mater Dei Comes Out Of The Gate Strong

(Corona, CA) Sept. 1, 2014  Michael Gibson II

A matchup of two of the most successful high school football programs in the nation faced off Saturday August 30, 2014 at Mission Viejo High School. This duel was between Corona Centennial Huskies & Mater Dei Monarchs. Corona Centennial faces a brutal schedule this year, one of the hardest in the nation, and in addition entered the tough PAC-5 conference this year.

In the season opener Mater Dei came out strong and showed Corona Centennial that they are the standard when it comes to High School football by winning the game with a score of 38-18. At one point Mater Dei led the game with a 28-0 lead. Of course Corona Centennial has enough talent to not embarrass themselves and closed the gap thereby making the score somewhat more respectable as they decreased the lead to 19 at the half, 31-12. For Huskies fans it is too soon to panic as last year they started off the season 0-2 before losing in the CIF-SS title game.
