Hot Shooting From Deep Push Clippers Past Memphis

Ontario, CA— Tyrone Wallace scored a season-high 30 points to lift the Agua Caliente Clippers to a 116-114 win over the Memphis Hustle on Tuesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. Despite a back and forth affair, the Clippers used 47% shooting from beyond the arc to grab the win and improve to 6-4 on the season.

“In the first half we came out sluggish,” Wallace said. “Memphis jumped on us early and then we kind of settled in and got back to our game. In the second half, we wanted to come out and be alert and efficient. We came out and ran our offense and picked it up on the defensive end and were able to get a lead.”

After an evenly matched first half of play, that saw the two teams tied at 60 heading into the break, guard CJ Williams scored 11 points in the third quarter to give the Clippers an eight point advantage going into the final quarter of play.

Memphis threatened in the fourth quarter, but the Clippers managed to hold on for their second consecutive victory. Marquis Teague led the Hustle with 19 points and Austin Nichols added 15.

Williams returned to Ontario after seven games with the LA Clippers, recording 22 points off the bench while going 11-13 from the free throw line, while Wallace led all scorers with his season-high performance. J.J. O’Brien went 3-4 from three and scored 14 points, and Marshall Plumlee and Ike Iroegbu added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Clippers return to action on Thursday night, as they take on Memphis in a 7 p.m. tip at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
