Former Vista Murreita star, Norman heads to Texas for NCAA regionals

GOOD THINGS HAPPEN WHEN NORMAN RACES — In the first outdoor race of his USC career Michael Norman set the Trojan freshman 400m record with a winning time of 45.22 at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet on April 30. His second meet was the Pac-12 Championships and he won the conference 400m title with a PR and 10th-fastest time of USC history of 45.15. He defeated the two-time defending champion from Oregon Marcus Chambers and became the first freshman to win the event since 2003. Norman currently ranks seventh in the 400m dash this season.

USC is sending 16 female and 15 male athletes to compete at the 2017 NCAA West Preliminary Rounds to be held at Mike A. Myers in Austin, Texas from May 25-27. USC’s men’s team is ranked No. 14 and the women’s team is ranked No. 4 in the country. There will be 48 athletes in each event, with the top 12 after the Preliminary Rounds in each region moving on to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. from June 7-10. The meet will be streamed live on Texassports.com/watch on May 25 (at 9 a.m. PT), May 26 (at 10 a.m.) and May 27 (at 11 a.m.).


Vista Murreita alum, junior pole vaulter Elleyse Garrett is one of two women’s pole vaulters on UCLA track and field who have made the NCAA Western Regional for the second year in a row. The top 12 move on to the national NCAA meet, and Garrett is entered as the 17th seed.
